Description
The Uttar Pradesh government has unveiled a pioneering initiative with the creation of ‘Anokhi Duniya,’ the world’s first park developed entirely from ceramic waste. Located in Khurja, Bulandshahr district popularly known as India’s “ceramic capital” the park is scheduled to open by the end of September 2025. The project highlights the state’s focus on sustainability, innovation, and global promotion of traditional industries.
Project Highlights
Spread over two acres, the park has been developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
More than 80 tonnes of discarded ceramic waste has been repurposed into creative artworks.
The initiative is part of the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme, which aims to strengthen local crafts and regional identity.
Artistic And Cultural Significance
The park showcases around 100 ceramic art pieces, crafted by a team of six artists and 120 artisans.
Notably, 28 large-scale installations made from broken pitchers, teapots, cups, and other ceramic items form the centerpiece of the park.
These creations demonstrate how waste can be transformed into sustainable art, aligning with the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’s clean and green vision.
Visitor Experience
Designed as a family-friendly destination, Anokhi Duniya combines art, leisure, and sustainability.
Attractions include interactive installations, selfie points, landscaped gardens, and a café.
The park is expected to become a major tourism hotspot, drawing both domestic and international visitors while celebrating Khurja’s rich craft heritage.
Economic And Regional Impact
Developed at a cost of Rupees 5.86 crore, the park will create employment opportunities for local artisans.
It will also enhance Khurja’s recognition as a global hub for ceramics, boosting the district’s economy.
A nominal entry fee will ensure accessibility and help maintain the park sustainably.
Government Vision On Sustainability
This initiative reflects the Yogi Adityanath government’s commitment to reviving traditional crafts while advancing eco-friendly practices. By turning ceramic waste into creative assets, Anokhi Duniya promotes sustainable development, waste management, and cultural preservation. It also strengthens the international identity of Indian handicrafts, resonating with national efforts to encourage cleanliness and environmental responsibility.
