Aadhar cards can now be used as identification by students applying for final exams and the English language exam. Exams are held for Indian students wishing to study abroad. Previously, students were required to provide other documents as proof of identity for exams, but as of July 1, 2021, students can submit their Aadhar card as proof of identity. The decision to accept the Aadhar card as proof of identity was made by the Education Testing Service, the body conducting the exam in the aftermath of the COVID-19 crisis. The examining body mentioned in its statement that the students faced difficulties in obtaining passports due to the COVID-19 lockdown, so the decision was made.
The rule is temporary taking into account COVID-19
According to the released statement, this is a temporary measure that will take effect on July 1, 2021, and will remain in effect until further notice. The new rule will apply to the general TOEFL and GRE home tests, which have become popular during the pandemic, along with Internet tests conducted at various examination centers.
The new rule will apply to the new compulsory TOEFL tests conducted by the ETS from August 21, 2021, and to the GRE subject test, which is scheduled to take place from October 2021. The passport is the only proof of identity accepted until it appears on tests in India, but the new move will make it easier for applicants to apply for tests, according to information on the official website.
TOEFL and GRE exams are required for admission to many universities around the world.
