Description
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has recommended that medical colleges submit fresh applications in order to increase the number of seats available for postgraduate (PG) medical courses in the next academic year 2024-25. According to the commission, the Postgraduate Medical Education Board (PGME) has already assessed the majority of applications for recognition and renewal of recognition in 2022.
NMC states in its notice that, “such medical colleges or institutes may submit fresh applications for increase of seats in various post-graduate courses being run by them for admission in the Academic Session 2024-25 since Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) has called applications for increase of seats in post-graduate courses.”
Medical Colleges To Have A Maximum Of 150 UG Seats
The NMC said earlier this week that medical colleges established from 2024-25 will be allowed to have a maximum of 150 undergraduate (UG) seats as long as the institute fulfills the new UG norms of 100 MBBS seats for every 10 lakh population in the state.
In addition, the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) welcomed applications for the establishment of new medical colleges, the renewal of current medical courses, and the expansion of UG and PG medical programmes. According to the statement, medical schools must submit applications for MD, MS, and MDS programs by September 15.
NMC Seeks Fellowship Details For FMG Temporary Registration
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has requested that medical colleges post information about fellowship programs for foreign medical graduates, including as course content, duration, and fees, on their official website. While processing petitions for temporary registration of FMGs, the NMC's Ethics and Medical Registration Board (EMRC) will verify these details.
Failure to provide the details, according to the commission, will result in a delay in the granting of temporary registration. The registration will be available for a maximum of 12 months, followed by a one-year cooling-off period.
