Mr. Misri, a specialist in India-China relations, is anticipated to highlight the ongoing friction between Delhi and Beijing.

About Vikram Misri

Vikram Misri (born November 7, 1964) is an Indian diplomat. He is now the 35th Foreign Secretary of India, succeeding Vinay Mohan Kwatra in July 2024. Previously, he served as India's Deputy National Security Advisor beginning January 1, 2022, succeeding Pankaj Saran until July 14, 2024. He served as India's ambassador to China from January 2019 to December 2021.

Vikram Misri's Significant International Appointments

Mr. Misri's notable international posts include Myanmar, where he served as the Indian ambassador from 2016 to 2018, when the Rohingya crisis occurred in Rakhine state. He was then assigned to China in 2019, where he served as ambassador until 2021. During the 2020 Galwan issue, he is alleged to have engaged in backdoor negotiations with Chinese authorities. His diplomatic career also includes postings with the Indian missions in Pakistan, the United States, Belgium, and Spain.
