NTA Will Conduct CUET-UG Retest If Grievance Raised By Candidates Found Correct

Description

The National Testing Agency will perform a retest for CUET-UG candidates from July 15 to 19 if any of their complaints regarding the exam's administration are determined to be valid, officials announced on July 7. The NTA also released the answer key for the undergraduate entrance exam, setting the stage for the slightly delayed announcement of the results.

"The candidates can submit their challenges for the answer key by 6 pm on July 9," a senior NTA official said.

"The NTA is also addressing public grievances regarding the exam conducted for CUET-UG that were received up to June 30. If a grievance is found genuine, the NTA is committed to redoing the exam for these candidates at selected centres any day between July 15 and 19," the official added.

While NTA officials declined to comment on the agency's objections, candidates claimed time was lost at specific exam centers and technical challenges.

"Challenges made by the candidates will be verified by a panel of subject experts. Based on the revised final answer key, the result will be declared," the official said.

The delay in CUET-UG results comes amidst a heated debate about suspected irregularities in competitive examinations such as NEET and NET.

The CUET-UG exam, which was held in a hybrid mode for the first time across the country, was cancelled in Delhi the night before the exam for logistical concerns. The exam was eventually held in the nation's capital. The NTA previously declared that the third edition of CUET-UG would be finished in seven days, with no score normalization because all exams will be administered in a single shift.

The tests for 15 subjects were pen-and-paper, while the exams for the remaining 48 subjects were computer-based. This year, over 13.4 lakh students applied for the common entrance test for admission to undergraduate courses at 261 central, state, deemed, and private institutions.

The first iteration of the exam, held in 2022, was marred by technical difficulties. Furthermore, because tests for a subject were administered across different shifts, the scores had to be normalized prior to the announcement of results.

In response to allegations of irregularities in the medical entrance exam NEET and the PhD entrance exam NET, the Centre removed NTA Director General Subodh Singh last week and appointed a high-level panel led by former Indian Space Research Organisation chief R Radhakrishnan to ensure the NTA conducts examinations in a transparent, smooth, and fair manner.

While the NEET is under investigation for a number of anomalies, including a suspected paper leak, the UGC-NET was cancelled after the education ministry received information that the exam's integrity had been jeopardised. Both cases are being investigated by the CBI.
