SELECTION PROCESS
The selection process of JEE Main 2026 is based purely on performance in the entrance examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
Step 1: Appearing in JEE Main 2026
Candidates appear for JEE Main 2026, which is conducted in two sessions (January & April).
For BE/B.Tech, Paper 1 is considered.
Candidates can appear in one or both sessions.
Step 2: Normalization & Percentile Calculation
Since the exam is conducted in multiple shifts, NTA uses a normalization process.
NTA Score (Percentile) is calculated based on relative performance across shifts.
The best NTA score out of both sessions is considered for ranking.
Step 3: Preparation of All India Rank (AIR)
Based on the final normalized NTA score, NTA prepares the All India Rank (AIR).
The AIR is released category-wise (GEN, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, EWS).
This rank determines a candidate’s selection status.
Step 4: Qualification Status
Candidates who score above the cutoff percentile are:
Declared “JEE Main Qualified”
Eligible for:
Admission to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs
Appearing in JEE Advanced (for IITs), if within top 2.5 lakh candidates
Step 5: Cutoff-Based Selection
NTA releases category-wise cutoff percentiles.
Selection depends on:
Candidate’s percentile
Category
Number of candidates
Difficulty level of the exam
Key Points to Remember
JEE Main selection is merit-based, not interview-based
No GD/PI or additional tests
Selection depends only on normalized score & AIR
Appearing in both sessions improves selection chances

EXAM SYLLABUS
The JEE Main 2026 B.Arch syllabus consists of three sections: Mathematics, General Aptitude, and the Drawing Test. It focuses on assessing candidates’ 3D perception, visual–spatial skills, and memory-based drawing abilities, particularly in the Aptitude and Drawing sections. The Mathematics syllabus aligns with JEE Main Paper 1, including topics such as Algebra, Calculus, and Geometry. The Aptitude section tests awareness of architecture, analytical reasoning, and understanding of forms and design principles, while the Drawing Test evaluates creativity through abstract shapes, geometric transformations, and scene-based sketching.
The JEE Main Paper 2A (B.Arch) syllabus is divided into three main parts:
Mathematics (Part I)
Aptitude Test (Part II)
Drawing Test (Part III)
The syllabus remains consistent with previous years, based on the official NTA guidelines for 2026 (no major changes announced).
Part I: Mathematics
This section is identical to Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech). Topics are from Class 11 and 12 NCERT:
Sets, Relations and Functions
Complex Numbers and Quadratic Equations
Matrices and Determinants
Permutations and Combinations
Mathematical Induction
Binomial Theorem and its Simple Applications
Sequences and Series
Limit, Continuity and Differentiability
Integral Calculus
Differential Equations
Coordinate Geometry
Three-Dimensional Geometry
Vector Algebra
Statistics and Probability
Trigonometry
Mathematical Reasoning
Part II: Aptitude Test
This tests architectural aptitude. Key topics include:
Awareness of persons, places, buildings, materials, and objects
Texture related to architecture and built environment
Visualizing three-dimensional objects from two-dimensional drawings
Visualizing different sides of three-dimensional objects
Analytical Reasoning and Mental Ability (visual, numerical, and verbal)
Three-dimensional perception: Understanding scale and proportion of objects, building forms and elements, colour texture, harmony, and contrast
Design and drawing of geometrical or abstract shapes and patterns in pencil
Transformation of forms (2D and 3D): union, subtraction, rotation, development of surfaces and volumes
Generation of Plan, Elevation, and 3D views of objects
Creating two-dimensional and three-dimensional compositions using given shapes and forms
Sketching of scenes and activities from memory (urbanscape like public spaces, markets, festivals; landscape like river fronts, jungles, trees, plants; rural life)
Part III: Drawing Test
This is conducted in pen-and-paper (offline) mode. Key areas:
Sketching of scenes and activities from memory (urbanscape: public spaces, markets, festivals, street scenes, monuments, recreational spaces, etc.)
Landscape (river fronts, jungles, trees, rural life, plants, etc.)
Focus on drawing skills: proportion, perspective, composition, shading, harmony, etc.
Important Notes:
Mathematics and Aptitude sections are Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode.
Drawing section is offline on a drawing sheet.
Total Marks: 400 (Mathematics: ~100 marks, Aptitude: 200 marks, Drawing: 100 marks).
For preparation: Use NCERT books for Maths, practice sketching daily, and refer to previous year papers for Aptitude and Drawing.
SELECTION PROCESS
The selection process of JEE Main 2026 is based purely on performance in the entrance examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
Step 1: Appearing in JEE Main 2026
Candidates appear for JEE Main 2026, which is conducted in two sessions (January & April).
For BE/B.Tech, Paper 1 is considered.
Candidates can appear in one or both sessions.
Step 2: Normalization & Percentile Calculation
Since the exam is conducted in multiple shifts, NTA uses a normalization process.
NTA Score (Percentile) is calculated based on relative performance across shifts.
The best NTA score out of both sessions is considered for ranking.
Step 3: Preparation of All India Rank (AIR)
Based on the final normalized NTA score, NTA prepares the All India Rank (AIR).
The AIR is released category-wise (GEN, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, EWS).
This rank determines a candidate’s selection status.
Step 4: Qualification Status
Candidates who score above the cutoff percentile are:
Declared “JEE Main Qualified”
Eligible for:
Admission to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs
Appearing in JEE Advanced (for IITs), if within top 2.5 lakh candidates
Step 5: Cutoff-Based Selection
NTA releases category-wise cutoff percentiles.
Selection depends on:
Candidate’s percentile
Category
Number of candidates
Difficulty level of the exam
Key Points to Remember
JEE Main selection is merit-based, not interview-based
No GD/PI or additional tests
Selection depends only on normalized score & AIR
