NMAT EXAM

NMAT is a national level entrance test conducted for MBA admissions at NMIMS University and other reputed B-Schools in India as well as abroad. Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies conducted NMAT until GMAC took over the authority. NMAT is designed keeping the test-taker's convenience in mind.

NMAT shares some features with GMAT as candidates are allowed to choose the preferred date during a testing window as well as self-schedule the test, time and venue, appointment date based on the availability of seats at the preferred test centre.

NMAT EXAM PATTERN

NMAT Exam Pattern has seen a few changes this year. NMAT exam will now be conducted in a revised pattern in two different testing modes Computer Based Test at Exam Centres and Online-Proctored test from home.

NMAT is an online exam of 360 marks. It consists of a total of 108 multiple-choice questions divided into 3 sections: Language Skills, Quantitative Skills, and Logical Reasoning.

Scaled scores: Questions in the NMAT by GMAC™ exam are selected from the question pool for each examinee based on his or her performance on the questions previously answered. The questions a candidate receives are targeted at his or her ability level; therefore, a high- scoring candidate generally receives a more difficult sample of questions than a low-scoring candidate. The NMAT by GMAC™ exam is scored by first obtaining the candidate’s final ability estimate based on the probabilistic model approach of modern exam theory, and then transformed to a scaled score ranging from 12 to 120. 

NMAT MODE OF EXAMINATION

NMAT Examination will be held as an Online Computer-based Test. Questions will be Objective type Multiple choice in nature.

NMAT MEDIUM OF EXAMINATION

The exam paper for NMAT Examination will be in English language Only.

NMAT MARKING SCHEME

1. Each of the three sections of NMAT Exam is individually timed.

2. There is no negative marking in NMAT exam.

3. For un-attempted and wrong answers, there will be no penalty.

Candidates willing to apply for NMAT Examination are required to fulfil certain conditions to be eligible for it. The candidate who does not satisfy the Eligibility criteria like Age, Minimum educational qualification etc., their candidature shall be rejected by the authorities. The candidate’s eligibility for NMAT Examination is based on the fulfilment of the following conditions:-

3. Educational Qualifications

NMAT EXAM: NATIONALITY

There is no nationality criteria for NMAT.

NMAT EXAM: AGE LIMIT

There is no age limit to take the NMAT entrance exam.

NMAT EXAM: EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

1. Applicants should obtain a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university or institute with at least 50 percent marks.

2. Final year students of Bachelor’s degree (regular) are eligible to apply for NMAT as well and get provisional admission. However, it is only after clearing the final year exam in the first attempt with at least 50 percent marks, that candidates would be offered final admission.

NMAT COURSE-WISE ELIGIBILITY

NOTE 1. As per University Grants Commission (UGC) - "Degrees / Diplomas / Certificates awarded for programmes conducted by the Open & Distance Learning (ODL) institutions, recognized by Distance Education Council (DEC) (erstwhile) and UGC, in conformity with UGC Notification on specification of Degrees should be treated as equivalent to the corresponding awards of the Degree / Diploma / Certificate of the traditional Universities / institutions in the country''.

NOTE 2. AIU certificate is mandatory for those candidates who have completed their graduation from overseas Universities.

NOTE 3. If at any stage, it is found that a candidate does not satisfy the eligibility criteria or the information furnished by him / her in the online registration is incorrect, his/her application for the admission to the programme, even if selected and fees paid, will stand cancelled and fees forfeited. The registration fee is non-refundable.

NOTE 4. Candidates appearing for NMAT by GMAC™ exam & NMIMS Selection process should note that if at any point of time it is observed that they do not meet eligibility criteria, then admission will be cancelled and the process will stand terminated. The course fees if paid, refund will be as per refund rules (as applicable).

It consist of three sections, Reasoning, Quant, and Language Skills. The overall level of NMAT 2022 remained moderate. Given below were the key features of NMAT 2022:

NMAT 2022 Section-Wise Analysis

Language Skills

As usual, this section included three reading comprehension passages, with three questions each. The remaining questions were from para jumbles, fill-in-the-blanks, analogy, cloze test, and similar other grammar or vocabulary-based topics. RC-related questions were moderate in difficulty, while the rest of the section was mostly easy.

Quantitative Skills

This part had most questions from the key areas of quantitative aptitude, followed by Data Interpretation and Data Sufficiency. These include topics like Time and Work, Simple Interest, Compound Interest, Percentage, Ratio and Mixture, permutation & combination, probability, progressions, etc. DI sets were based on tables, charts, and line graphs. There were 3-4 sets of DI in this section.

Logical Reasoning

This section had a nearly equal number of questions from verbal and non-verbal reasoning. These questions featured in the form of standalone as well as set formats. Non-verbal reasoning had questions from input-output, arrangements, ranking, and puzzles. Verbal reasoning part included questions from Critical reasoning, course of action, assumption-conclusion, strong/weak arguments, etc.

The option to skip to the next question without answering the current question was disabled, making it mandatory for the students to attempt all the questions.As per the available reports, the difficulty level of the NMAT 2021 question paper is Easy to Moderate. The important topics in the exam include Arithmetic, DI, Modern Maths, Reading Comprehension, Verbal Reasoning etc.

Quantitative Skills

1. Out of 36 questions in the Quantitative Skills section, 19 were on Mathematics, 12 on Data Interpretation, and 5 on Data Sufficiency
2. Out of the 19 questions on Mathematics, 10 questions were on Arithmetic, 7 questions were on Modern Maths and 1 question each was on Numbers and Geometry
3. Majority of the questions were on Arithmetic. Permutation & Combination, Probability, and Logarithms were the other prominent topics of this section.
4. There were three sets on Data Interpretation. One set on Tables involving a good amount of calculations, one set on a Line graph that was observation-based, and one set on a Bar Chart involving a moderate level of calculations

6. The grammar and vocabulary questions included: Spotting the error in the underlined parts of a sentence, fill in the blanks Jumbled paragraph, Word Analogies; There were no questions on Synonyms, Antonyms or meaning of phrase.

2. There were 18 questions on Non-Verbal Reasoning and 18 questions on Verbal Reasoning

Quantitative Skills

Experts in NMAT 2020 Analysis suggest the questions of the Quantitative Skills section was toughest as compared to the other two sections. In total, there were 36 questions in this section from different topics such as Mathematics, Data Interpretation and Data Sufficiency. The section was dominated by 12 questions from the DI area followed by 10 questions from the Arithmetic section and 7 questions from the Modern Maths area. There were little or no questions from Geometry and Algebra topics.

Language Skills

NMAT 2020 analysis suggests the Language Skills section to be moderate to tough. There were three RC passages of 450 to 500 words, each having four questions. The topics of Reading Comprehension passages were  “Education System in the Country’, 'Economics' and ‘Art Installation.’

The rest of the questions in this section were easy and based on vocabulary and grammar concepts. In included,  spotting the error in the underlined parts of a sentence, fill in the blanks, jumbled paragraphs, word analogies, synonyms, antonyms and meaning of the phrase. Logical Reasoning

NMAT 2020 analysis by experts reflects that Logical Reasoning was the easiest section. There were 18 questions each from Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning.

Major Highlights

1. The difficulty level of the NMAT 2020 exam was moderate.
2. There was no surprise element in the NMAT question paper.
3. NMAT Quantitative Skills section was the toughest.

5. Around 77-83 questions (across sections) could have been easily solved within a time span of 120 minutes.

NMAT EXAMINATION

NMAT or NMAT by GMAC is a national-level entrance test conducted for MBA admissions at NMIMS University and other reputed business schools in India as well as abroad. Candidates can choose their desired day during a testing window, as well as self-schedule the exam, time and place, and appointment date dependent on the availability of seats at the desired test center, as they may with the GMAT.

NMAT EXAMINATION SELECTION PROCESS

1. Post the NMAT examination and based on the NMAT first attempt scores, candidates will be shortlisted for MBA programs. The call letter will be declared on our website.
2. The selection process may include a psychometric test or Written Analytic Test along with a Personal interview.
3. Weightage will be given to academic performance and work experience.No separate call letter will be mailed.
4. The final merit list will be prepared on the basis of the application data in terms of academic marks obtained, work experience, and marks obtained in NMAT by GMAC™ and WAT - Personal Interview.
5. The selection criteria will be based on merit only. The decision regarding the cut-off of the merit list will solely lie with NMIMS. Those candidates who have applied for more than one Programme / Campus in their application forms, their selection will be based on their merit score and preferences obtained by them as well as on the availability of the seats in the respective Programme. In this regard, the decision of the NMIMS shall be final and indisputable and shall be binding on all concerned.

NMAT or NMAT by GMAC is a national-level entrance test conducted for MBA admissions at NMIMS University and other reputed business schools in India as well as abroad. Candidates can choose their desired day during a testing window, as well as self-schedule the exam, time and place, and appointment date dependent on the availability of seats at the desired test center, as they may with the GMAT.

NMAT EXAMINATION SELECTION PROCESS

1. Post the NMAT examination and based on the NMAT first attempt scores, candidates will be shortlisted for MBA programs. The call letter will be declared on our website.
2. The selection process may include a psychometric test or Written Analytic Test along with a Personal interview.
3. Weightage will be given to academic performance and work experience.No separate call letter will be mailed.
4. The final merit list will be prepared on the basis of the application data in terms of academic marks obtained, work experience, and marks obtained in NMAT by GMAC™ and WAT - Personal Interview.
5. The selection criteria will be based on merit only. The decision regarding the cut-off of the merit list will solely lie with NMIMS. Those candidates who have applied for more than one Programme / Campus in their application forms, their selection will be based on their merit score and preferences obtained by them as well as on the availability of the seats in the respective Programme. In this regard, the decision of the NMIMS shall be final and indisputable and shall be binding on all concerned.

NMAT EXAM ADMIT CARD

Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) will provide NMAT admit card to the candidates within 24 hours after their successful NMAT registration and scheduling of the NMAT exam date. Eligible candidates can download the admit card with their credentials such as application number and date of birth. No candidate will receive an NMAT Admit card by email, fax, etc. It includes details such as the candidate's name, test date, test time, and test center. Candidates can follow the below-mentioned steps to download admit card for the NMAT exam:

STEP 2- Click on the ‘Download NMAT Admit card’ link provided on the website.
STEP 3- Login to the NMAT by GMAC account

NMAT Result is released in the form of a scorecard within 48 hours of taking the exam. An email notification is also sent regarding the availability of the same.
