OVERVIEW
Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED) exam is conducted by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay on behalf of Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India to offer admission to aspirants in M.Des - Master of Design and Ph.D Programmes. The Objective of the Common Entrance Exam for Design (CEED) is to evaluate the candidate's aptitude for design involving visual perception ability, drawing skills, logical reasoning, creativity, communication and problem-solving skills.
SYLLABUS
The syllabus of CEED exam is divided into 2 parts, A and B. While, the former is a computer based test, the latter is evaluated manually by the officials.
Part A
CEED exam does not have such prescribed syllabus by the exam authority. As per the exam questions from the previous year’s papers it has been observed that Part A contains the following topics:

Candidates willing to apply for CEED Examination are required to fulfil certain conditions to be eligible for it. The candidate who does not satisfy the Eligibility criteria like Age, Minimum educational qualification etc., their candidature shall be rejected by the authorities.
The candidate’s eligibility for CEED Examination is based on the fulfilment of the following conditions:-

Nationality
Indian/Foreign/OCI /PIO card holders candidates are eligible to apply.
Age Limit
There is no age limit to appear for CEED. Candidates with relevant qualification irrespective of age can register for CEED exam.

A candidate can appear for CEED any number of times.
Educational Qualifications
Candidates must have completed a degree/diploma/post graduate degree programme of minimum THREE years (after 10+2 level), or must be appearing for the final examination of such a program by July 2025, or must have passed the GD Arts diploma programme (10+5 level) by July 2025.
Note - The eligibility criteria for admission to various institutes may differ from the eligibility criteria for appearing for CEED. Before applying for CEED, candidates are advised to check whether they meet the required eligibility criteria for admission to various institutes.
PARTICIPATING INSTITUTE
Different CEED Participating institutes have different eligibility criteria for admissions in the desired courses. The candidates must satisfy the Eligibility Criteria of CEED for different institutes to seek admissions in their desired institutes. The CEED Exam Eligibility for the various participating institutes is summarised below:
IIT Bangalore
A recognized Bachelor’s degree in engineering/design / architecture.
IIT Bombay
Candidate should have a minimum of 55% (50% marks in case of SC / ST / PwD) or equivalent grades in the qualifying degree for individual streams:
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Design / Engineering / Architecture / Interior Design: 10 +2 + 4 years (minimum 4 years Bachelor’s course).
2. B. Plan is considered equivalent to B.Arch.
3. Four year B.Sc (Engg) course after HSC considered equivalent to BE / B.Tech.
4. Professional Diploma in Design: 10 + 2 + 4 years (minimum 4 year diploma program).
5. BFA (4 year professional program with entry after 10 +2)
6. GD Art (4 year program after 1 year foundation. Minimum entry requirements are 10th pass).
IIT Delhi
1. Programme offers 20 seats to students seeking admission in M.Des and belonging to B.Tech, B.Des and B.Arch backgrounds.
2. Must have a valid CEED score; GATE score will not be considered.
IIT Guwahati
1. 4 year Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Design / Engineering / Architecture / Interior Design or a Design related field with a minimum CPI of 6.0 out of 10 or minimum 60% marks.
2. 4 year Professional Diploma in Design of NID or Professional Diploma of CEPT (5 year programme) with a minimum CPI of 6.0 out of 10 minimum 60% marks.
3. Relaxation for SC / ST / PwD Candidates: The CPI or percentage marks in above mentioned eligibility requirements will be relaxed by 0.5 CPI or by 5% marks for SC / ST / PwD candidates. EXAM ANALYSIS 2022
CEED 2022 was held on January 23, 2022 from 9 AM to 12 PM. The difficulty level of the exam has been recorded as Moderate. This analysis will help all the candidates who have appeared in the exam or all those aspirants who are going to appear for the exam in the future.
SECTIOB WISE EXAM ANALYSYS
The total duration of the exam was 3 hours combining both the papers (180 minutes).
Part A: It is comprised of three sections i.e. Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ)s, Multiple Select Questions (MSQ), Numerical Answer Type (NAT).
Part B: Contained one question on topic and branch-specific (to solve within 30 minutes)
1. A candidates took 25 minutes to answer numerical answer-type questions and they found MCQs easy. Overall difficulty level of the exam has been recorded as Moderate.
2. There were 5 questions that were asked in part B and candidates found the questions a bit confusing. Each question in part B was to be answered on a separate page and some of the candidates found it difficult to understand.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Nationality
Indian/Foreign/OCI /PIO card holders candidates are eligible to apply.
Age Limit
There is no age limit to appear for CEED. Candidates with relevant qualification irrespective of age can register for CEED exam.
Number Of Attempts
A candidate can appear for CEED any number of times.
Educational Qualifications
Candidates must have completed a degree/diploma/post graduate degree programme of minimum THREE years (after 10+2 level), or must be appearing for the final examination of such a program by July 2025, or must have passed the GD Arts diploma programme (10+5 level) by July 2025.
MOD OF SELECTION
During the counseling procedure, the allotment of seats and branches will be done. The seats are allotted to the successful candidates based on their performance in CEED. The counseling and seat allotment is an online process. The details of the same will be published and also acknowledged to the candidates through e-mail. Some important points are:
1. To appear in the counseling, qualified candidates must download the counseling call letter from the official website of CEED.
2. You need to check the official website of the institute to which you are applying for admission.
3. After seat allotment by the candidates in their respective colleges according to their marks, applicants will have to report to the allotted college to complete the admission process.
EXAM PATTERN
1. The CEED exam pattern consists of two parts- Part A and Part B. Both the parts are conducted on the same day
2. Part A comprise of a total of 150 marks.
3. Part A will be Computer Based Test of time duration of 1 hour.
5. Part A contains objective type questions (multiple choice questions, multiple select questions and numerical answer questions).
6. Part B consists of questions that are aimed at testing design, drawing, and writing skills.
7. In Part B, there will be 5 questions of total 100 marks. There will not be any optional questions.
8. The questions in Part B will be displaed on the computer screen and the answers are to be written in the answer book provided by the invigilator (NOT into the computer).
SYLLABUS
CEED 2025 will be in two parts (A & B). Part-A will have questions related to the following topics:
Visualization and spatial reasoning: Ability to visualise and transform 2D shapes and 3D objects and their spatial relationships.
Practical and scientific knowledge: Know-how of scientific principles and everyday objects.
Observation and design sensitivity: The capacity to detect concealed properties in daily life and think critically about them. Attention to detail,
classification, analysis, inference, and prediction.
Environment and society: General awareness of environmental, social and cultural connections with design.
Analytical and logical reasoning: Ability to analyse qualitative and quantitative information.
Language: Proficiency in reading and comprehending Standard English.
Creativity: Grasp of verbal and non-verbal analogies, metaphors, signs, and symbols.
Art and Design knowledge: Awareness about art/artifact/product, artists/designers, art/design history, and trends.
Design methods and practices: Knowledge of media, materials, production processes, and ergonomics.
Part-B of CEED 2025 will have questions related to the following topics:
Drawing: Ability to draw products, people or scenes in proportion with good line quality, composition, proportion, perspective, and shading.
Creativity: Ability to think out-of-the-box and come up with unique as well as diverse solutions.
Communication: Skills to communicate concepts and ideas clearly with the help of text and visuals.
Problem identification: Skills to understand the user and the context, knowledge of properties of materials and their appropriate use in design.
CEED 2025 is an aptitude test; hence, no specific textbook or guide is recommended for its preparation. Candidates may, however, practise their drawing, rendering and visualization skills. Question papers of some previous years are available on the official CEED website.
EXAM APPLICATION PROCESS
The application process is online, Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria can fill out the application form. The application process involves several steps, such as registering, completing the application form, uploading the required documents, paying the fee, and final submission. Candidates only need to fill out the application form with correct details, otherwise, you are responsible for rejection.

1. 2. Candidates should compulsorily choose THREE cities in the order of preference during the online registration. Once the registration form is submitted, a request for a city change will NOT be entertained.
3. If a sufficient number of candidates are unavailable in a city, that city may be dropped from the final list, and candidates will be allotted to a city of their second or third choice. The UCEED-CEED Implementation Committee (UCIC) reserves the right to add a new city or remove an existing one and allot a city the candidate may not have chosen.
4. Any request for a change of centre will NOT be entertained.
ADMIT CARD
Admit Card will be available for downloading from the official CEED website (www.ceed.iitb.ac.in) from January 03, 2025 till the examination date. Please bring a clear printout of the Admit Card when coming to the examination centre.
In case of any discrepancies in the Admit Card, please write to ceed@iitb.ac.in latest by January 09, 2025, 5:00 pm.

Part-A marks will be displayed for ALL the candidates who have successfully appeared in the exam and Part-B marks will be displayed for ONLY shortlisted candidates. All shortlisted candidates will get a rank.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Nationality
Indian/Foreign/OCI /PIO card holders candidates are eligible to apply.
Age Limit
There is no age limit to appear for CEED. Candidates with relevant qualification irrespective of age can register for CEED exam.
Number Of Attempts
A candidate can appear for CEED any number of times.
Educational Qualifications
Candidates must have completed a degree/diploma/post graduate degree programme of minimum THREE years (after 10+2 level), or must be appearing for the final examination of such a program by July 2025, or must have passed the GD Arts diploma programme (10+5 level) by July 2025.
Note - The eligibility criteria for admission to various institutes may differ from the eligibility criteria for appearing for CEED. Before applying for CEED, candidates are advised to check whether they meet the required eligibility criteria for admission to various institutes.
MOD OF SELECTION
During the counseling procedure, the allotment of seats and branches will be done. The seats are allotted to the successful candidates based on their performance in CEED. The counseling and seat allotment is an online process. The details of the same will be published and also acknowledged to the candidates through e-mail. Some important points are:
1. To appear in the counseling, qualified candidates must download the counseling call letter from the official website of CEED.
2. You need to check the official website of the institute to which you are applying for admission.
3. After seat allotment by the candidates in their respective colleges according to their marks, applicants will have to report to the allotted college to complete the admission process.
EXAM PATTERN
1. The CEED exam pattern consists of two parts- Part A and Part B. Both the parts are conducted on the same day
2. Part A comprise of a total of 150 marks.
3. Part A will be Computer Based Test of time duration of 1 hour.
5. Part A contains objective type questions (multiple choice questions, multiple select questions and numerical answer questions).
6. Part B consists of questions that are aimed at testing design, drawing, and writing skills.
7. In Part B, there will be 5 questions of total 100 marks. There will not be any optional questions.
8. The questions in Part B will be displaed on the computer screen and the answers are to be written in the answer book provided by the invigilator (NOT into the computer).
SYLLABUS
CEED 2025 will be in two parts (A & B). Part-A will have questions related to the following topics:
Visualization and spatial reasoning: Ability to visualise and transform 2D shapes and 3D objects and their spatial relationships.
Practical and scientific knowledge: Know-how of scientific principles and everyday objects.
Observation and design sensitivity: The capacity to detect concealed properties in daily life and think critically about them. Attention to detail,
classification, analysis, inference, and prediction.
Environment and society: General awareness of environmental, social and cultural connections with design.
Analytical and logical reasoning: Ability to analyse qualitative and quantitative information.
Language: Proficiency in reading and comprehending Standard English.
Creativity: Grasp of verbal and non-verbal analogies, metaphors, signs, and symbols.
Art and Design knowledge: Awareness about art/artifact/product, artists/designers, art/design history, and trends.
Design methods and practices: Knowledge of media, materials, production processes, and ergonomics.
Part-B of CEED 2025 will have questions related to the following topics:
Drawing: Ability to draw products, people or scenes in proportion with good line quality, composition, proportion, perspective, and shading.
Creativity: Ability to think out-of-the-box and come up with unique as well as diverse solutions.
Communication: Skills to communicate concepts and ideas clearly with the help of text and visuals.
Problem identification: Skills to understand the user and the context, knowledge of properties of materials and their appropriate use in design.
CEED 2025 is an aptitude test; hence, no specific textbook or guide is recommended for its preparation. Candidates may, however, practise their drawing, rendering and visualization skills. Question papers of some previous years are available on the official CEED website.
HOW CAN APPLY
Step 1: Go through the official website
Step 2: Now click on “Online Registration -CEED Admission” and then click on “Fresh Candidates to create Log In”.
Step 3: Fill required details like Email Id, Phone Number, Name, Date of Birth and select the program candidates apply for and submit them.
Step 4: Now login with Email Id and Date of Birth and a new page of CEED Application Form will open.
Step 5: After login, fill the CEED Application form with required details and click on “save” button.
Step 6: CEED Application Form will contains information like Name, Fathers Name, Address, Academic details, examination Centre, Contact Information etc..
Step 7: Now upload photograph and signature in CEED application Form.
Step 8: Photograph should be passport size photograph with plane background.
Step 9: Signature should be candidate running hand signature and should be scanned.
Step 10: Now go for the payment Mode and then fill the required details accordingly.
Step 11: Once payment has been successfully paid take the copy of filled Application From and Fee receipt as proof for further usage.
Step 12: Applicants don’t need to send hardcopy of Application Form to the authority.

1. Make sure to reach the exam center at least one hour before the examination.
2. Candidates are required to carry a valid copy of the admit card and identity proof to the CEED exam centres.
3. Avoid talking inside the exam hall. You will be disqualified from the exam in case if found either copying or giving assistance to others.
4. Do not carry electronic devices inside the examination center.
5. Maintaining a social distance is a must at the exam center.
6. Make sure to follow the rules instructed by the invigilator in the exam hall.
