NID DAT PG EXAM PATTERN
The Design Aptitude Tests will be conducted in two stages:
Stage 1: Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Prelims
Stage 2: Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Mains
For Stage 1 (Prelims)
The M.Des. DAT Prelims paper is of 100 marks, comprising of a Common Design Aptitude Test and a Discipline Specific Test, which together will evaluate the Design Aptitude of the candidate. The DAT Prelims paper comprises of a mix of objective and subjective type questions. The question paper will be in English language ONLY.
For candidates applying in only one discipline of M.Des Programm
Such candidates are required to appear in DAT Prelims comprising of the test paper for one discipline only, the duration for which will be announced in the admit card.
For candidates applying in two disciplines of M.Des. Programme
Such candidates are required to appear in DAT Prelims comprising of two test papers, one for each discipline, the duration for which will be announced in the admit card.
Note. Based on the DAT Prelims scores, separate merit lists shall be prepared for each category (GENERAL, GENERAL-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST & PWD) as applied for by the candidate for each discipline. Only shortlisted candidates as per merit will be eligible to appear for the DAT Mains exam as per the schedule announced
For Stage 2 (Mains)
Based on the scores obtained in the DAT Prelims, candidates will be shortlisted for the DAT Mains as per merit. The DAT Mains for M.Des. programmes consists of two parts:
Studio Test:
This may consist of tests in different formats. The DAT Mains will be conducted in English ONLY.
Interviews:
The interviews will be conducted separately for each discipline, immediately after the Studio Test, and at the same centre as the Studio Test.
Note. NID will not provide accommodation for candidates appearing for the DAT Mains; candidates must arrange travel/accommodation on their own

NID DAT PG EXAM
Candidates willing to apply for NID DAT Examination are required to fulfill certain conditions to be eligible for it. The candidate who does not satisfy the Eligibility criteria like Age, Minimum educational qualification etc., their candidature shall be rejected by the authorities. The criteria for eligibility NID DAT are decided by the conduction body itself.
The candidate’s eligibility for NID DAT Examination is based on the fulfillment of the following conditions:-

NID DAT PG EXAM AGE LIMIT & RELAXATIONS
1. For Indian Nationals in General Category & General EWS Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1992 are eligible to apply for admission.
2. For Indian Nationals in Reserved Category (Other Backward Class-Non Creamy Layer (OBC- NCL), Scheduled Caste (SC) & Scheduled Tribe (ST): Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1989 are eligible to apply for admission.
3. For Indian Nationals in Person with Disabilities (PwD) Reserved Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1987 are eligible to apply for admission.
4. For Foreign Nationals in Overseas (Supernumerary) Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1992 are eligible to apply for admission.
NID DAT PG EXAM EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
In addition to satisfying the above age criteria, the candidate must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications to be considered eligible for admissions:
Bachelor Degree of minimum 4-year duration in any specialization, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard from any university and/or institute recognised by the law in India.
Condition: Candidate must have appeared for all the subjects and backlogs (if any), of the Bachelor Degree Examination by 30 June 2024.
OR
Full-time Diploma of minimum 4-year duration in Design/Fine Arts/Applied Arts/ Architecture, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard, from university and/or institute recognised by the law in India.
Condition: Candidate must have appeared for all the subjects and backlogs (if any), of the Bachelor Degree Examination by 30 June 2024.
OR
Bachelor Degree of minimum 3-year duration in any specialization, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard from university and/or institute recognised by the law in India.
Condition: Candidates must have passed the 3-year Bachelor degree examinations by August 2023.
Overseas Category (Supernumerary candidates)
Foreign candidates holding citizenship of a country other than Republic of India are eligible to apply only under the Overseas (supernumerary) category of the seats available for the M.Des., 15% supernumerary seats are available for Overseas candidates. 1. Make a Plan: Curating a plan and making a strategy, is very crucial for NID DAT. It helps in managing time and implementing ideas. Try to allocate enough study time to all the subjects. Making a plan is an effective way to manage time management and achieve desired goals.
2. Solve the Sample Papers: Sample Papers or Practice Papers are a great way to understand the exam pattern and type of questions that might crop up. Solve as many sample papers as you can. It would also help in analysing your performance and rectifying mistakes.
3. Work on your Speed: There are plenty of questions to attend to in a limited time. Practising through previous years' question papers and model papers provide the required speed and enhance accuracy.
