4. The research proposal need not be related to the work that the candidate may actually carry out if registered for Ph.D.
5. The Interview Board will examine the Research proposal submitted by the candidate and ask questions relating to it and other questions, including those relating to the area in which the candidate expects to undertake research, if selected, to test his/her competence for research in the discipline.
6. A candidate applying in more than one discipline, will appear at Test B separately in each of the disciplines for which he/she has applied and shortlisted.

BANARAS HINDU UNIVERSITY RESEARCH ENTRANCE TEST
Candidates willing to apply for BHU RET Examination are required to fulfil certain conditions to be eligible for it. The candidate who does not satisfy the Eligibility criteria like Minimum educational qualification etc., their candidature shall be rejected by the authorities.
The criteria for eligibility BHU RET are decided by the conduction body itself.
BHU RET FACULTY-WISE ELIGIBILITY
A) Faculties of Arts, Social Sciences, Science
Qualifying Examination :-
Master’s degree in the concerned subject
OR
(ii) Masters degree in any one of the allied subjects
However,
1. for admission to Ph.D. in Women’s Studies, Peace Research, Public Administration and Nepal Studies candidates holding Post Graduate degree in any discipline of Social Science/ Science/ Humanities/ Management would be eligible. Further candidates having postgraduate degree in Nepali Language and Culture are also eligible for Ph.D. in Nepal Studies.
2. For admission to Ph.D. in Subaltern Studies candidates holding M.Phil. degree in Subaltern Studies would be eligible. Candidates who have done M.Phil. in Subaltern Studies from the Banaras Hindu University shall be considered for direct admission to Ph.D. in Subaltern Studies without appearing in the RET. However, such candidates who have obtained the M.Phil. from other Universities are required to appear in the RET for Subaltern Studies.
3. For admission to Ph.D. in Geophysics, candidates holding BE/B.Tech. degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Sciences (Enviromental Technology) would also be eligible.
4. For admission to Ph.D. in Molecular and Human Genetics, candidates holding BE/B.Tech. degree in Biotechnology, Bioscience & Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Materials Science and Pharmaceutical Engineering would also be eligible
5. For admission to Ph.D. in Mathematical Sciences under its main-discipline quota, the candidates holding PG degrees in their allied subjects (as per Appendix I) are allowed to appear in the RET of Mathematical Sciences.
6. For admission to Ph.D. in Human and Clinical Genetics (in Centre for Genetic Disorders), under their main-discipline quota, the candidates holding PG degrees (M.Sc./MD/MS/MDS/M.Tech./DM) in their allied subjects (as per Appendix I) are allowed to appear in the RET of Human and Clinical Genetics
7. For admission to Ph.D. in Bhojpuri evam Janpadiya Adhyan evam Janpadiya Adhyan, candidates holding PG Degree in Humanities, Social Sciences, Agriculture, Engineering and Technology, Management, Medical Sciences, Performing Arts and Visual Arts in any branch/discipline would also be eligible.
Qualifying Marks :- At least 55% in the aggregate or equivalent grade point average in the qualifying examination.
B) Faculty of Performing Arts
Qualifying Examination :-
Master’s degree in the concerned discipline from a recognized University. OR
Master’s degree in any discipline and having passed any one of the following examinations other than Performing Arts:-
(a) Sangeet Nipun Examination of Bhatkhande Vidyapeeth, Lucknow;
(b) Sangeet Praveen Examination of Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad;
(c) Sangeet Alankar Examination of Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Mumbai;
(d) Sangeet Kovid Examination of Indra Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya, Khairagarh, C.G. OR
Any other Professional Music Degree equivalent to the above and recognized by the Banaras Hindu University
Qualifying Marks :- At least 55% in the aggregate or equivalent grade point average in the qualifying examination.
C) Sanskrit Vidya Dharm Vigyan Sankay
Qualifying Examination :-
1. Acharya degree in the concerned subject OR
2. Acharya or equivalent degree in any one of the allied subjects.
Qualifying Marks :- At least 55% in the aggregate or equivalent grade point average in the qualifying examination.
D) Faculty of Commerce
Qualifying Examination :-
Master’s degree in Commerce (M.Com.)/Master of Finance and Control (M.F.C.)/ Master of Financial Management (MFM) / Master of Risk and Insurance Management (MRIM)/ Master of Financial Management (Risk & Insurance) (MFMRI)/Master of Foreign Trade (MFT)/Master of Business Management (M.B.M.), Master of Business Administration OR in allied areas namely, M.A. in Economics/ Psychology, Chartered Accountancy (C.A.) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Costs & Works Accountancy of the Institute of Costs & Works Accountants of India (I.C.W.A.I.), the Company Secretaryship of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (I.C.S.I.).
Qualifying Marks :- At least 55% in the aggregate or equivalent grade point average in the qualifying examination.
E) Faculty of Management Studies
Qualifying Examination :-
1. Master’s degree in Business Management (M.B.M.), Management Studies/ Management Sciences (M.M.S.), Business Administration (M.B.A.), International Business Administration (M.I.B.A.), International Business (M.I.B.), M.B.A. (Agri-Business) OR
2. Two year PGP/PGDM declared equivalent to Master’s Degree in Management by AIU/accredited by AICTE/UGC or First class graduate and professionally qualified Chartered Accountant/Cost and Works Accountant/Company Secretary of the concerned statutory bodies.
Qualifying Marks :- At least 60% in the aggregate or equivalent grade point average in the qualifying examination.
F) Faculty of Law
Qualifying Examination :- Master’s Degree in the concerned discipline
Qualifying Marks :- At least 55% in the aggregate or equivalent grade point average in the qualifying examination.
G) Faculty of Education
Qualifying Examination :-
1. M.Ed./M.A. (Education)/ Master’s degree in Special Education [M.Ed. (Spl.)] / OR
2. Master’s degree in any one of the allied subjects (Indian Philosophy and Religion, Philosophy, Economics, History, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology)
Qualifying Marks :- At least 55% in the aggregate or equivalent grade point average in the qualifying examination.
H) Faculty of Medicine
Qualifying Examination :-

J) Faculty of Dental Sciences
Qualifying Examination :- Master’s Degree in Dental Surgery or Master’s degree in any one of the allied subjects
Qualifying Marks :- At least 55% in aggregate or equivalent grade point average in the qualifying examination (wherever the marks/grades are awarded)
K) Faculty of Visual Arts
Qualifying Examination :- Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts under four year course and Master’s degree in Fine Arts -
(i) MFA in applied Art or
(ii) MFA in Plastic Arts (Sculpture) or
iii) MFA in Painting or
(iv) in Textile Design or
(v) MFA in Pottery Ceramic.
Qualifying Marks :- At least 55% in the aggregate or equivalent grade point average in the qualifying examination.
L) Faculty of Environment & Sustainable Development
Qualifying Examination :-
1. A candidate having Master’s degree in the concerned subject OR
2. Master’s degree in any one of the allied subjects, namely, Agriculture (all disciplines), Chemistry/Applied Chemistry, Atmospheric Sciences, Microbiology/Applied Microbiology, Physics/Applied Physics, Biochemistry, Bio-informatics, Biotechnology, Botany, Earth Sciences, Ecological Sciences, M.Tech. in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Biotechnology, Environmental Management, Environmental Microbiology, M.Sc. in Geography, Geology, Geophysics, Life Science/Biosciences, Meteorology, Wildlife Biology, Zoology, Statistics, Remote Sensing & GIS/ Geo-informatics provided the candidate has opted at least one paper related to environment and/or sustainable development.
Qualifying Marks :- At least 55% in the aggregate or equivalent grade point average in the qualifying examination.
M) Faculty of Environment And Sustainable Development :-

1. Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Science (Environmental Technology), Environmental Management, Environmental Science and Sustainable Development, Environmental Studies, and Environmental Biology OR

Qualifying Marks :- Must have at least 55% in the aggregate or equivalent grade point average in the examination of the qualifying degree obtained from any Indian University/Institution recognized by AIU/AICTE or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-Point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions and a minimum academic record of 50.

Qualifying Examination :- Post graduate degree in any disciplines of Social Sciences/humanities with minimum 55% marks at qualifying examination.
BHU RET RESERVATION
For Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes :- Seats shall be reserved for Scheduled Caste (15%) and Scheduled Tribe (7.5%) candidates in each discipline/programme. Admission against these seats will be made provided the candidate has passed the Qualifying Examination and qualifies RET/M.Phil Entrance Test
For Other Backward Classes (OBC’s) :- 27% Reservation to candidates belonging to OBC category (excluding under creamy layer) will be provided in different programmes.
For Economically Weaker Sections (EWSs) :- In accordance with O.M.F.No.12-4/2019-U1 dated 17thJanuary 2019 of the Department of Higher Education, MHRD, Government of India, 10% reservation for Economically Weaker Sections shall be provided.
Persons With Disability :- 5% seats shall be reserved for Persons with Disability Candidates on horizontal basis: (a) blindness and low vision; (1%) + (b) deaf and hard of hearing; (1%) + (c) locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims and muscular dystrophy; (1%) + (d) autism, intellectual disability, specific learning disability and mental illness; (1%) + (e) multiple disabilities from amongst persons under clauses (a) to (d) including deaf-blindness in the posts identified for each disabilities: (1%) (on horizontal reservation basis).
BHU RET RELAXATIONS IN MINIMUM PERCENTAGE OF MARKS
1. In admission to Ph.D. programmes :- There shall be a relaxation of 5% marks (or equivalent grade point average) for SC/ST and PC candidates in the minimum marks required in the qualifying examination. The minimum Academic Record required for SC/ST/PC and OBC candidates shall be 45 and 47.50, respectively. However, a Physically Challenged (PC), SC/ST/OBC candidate shall not get the double benefit of being SC/ST/ OBC as well as PC candidate in the above relaxations.
2. In admission to Integrated M.Phil-Ph.D. programme :-There shall be a relaxation of 5% marks (or equivalent grade point average) for SC/ST and PC candidates in the minimum marks required in the qualifying examination. BHU RET EXAM SELECTION PROCESS
Through RET, a candidate shall have to appear in a Written Test conducted by University. Written Test shall be of Multiple Choice based. Written Test qualified candidate shall have to appear in Subjective Test and Personal Interview. Academic Record calculations of candidates shall be also considered in admission. Merit list preparation method shall be as similar as Direct Admission (RET – Exempted).
The RET and RET – Exempted candidate must secure a composite index of at least 210/60 to be eligible for Ph.D. registration in the discipline. However, meeting the said minimum composite index requirement will not guarantee registration for Ph.D.

BHU RET COUNSELLING PROCESS
BHU RET Counseling Process will start after the declaration of the BHU RET examination results. All the eligible candidates shall be informed and called for the counseling process. Candidates who have been given seats and still do not attend the counseling process shall have their seats rejected and given to other eligible candidates.All BHU RET selected candidates are obliged to attend the BHU RET counselling session. Candidates must bring an original copy of all relevant documents to the counseling centre. Candidates must attend the BHU RET counseling session on the scheduled date and time.

LATEST UPDATE FOR BHU RET EXAM
Banaras Hindu University has not released an official notification for BHU RET yet. As per some sources BHU RET is expected to take place in September.
Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, one of the top Institutions of Eminence in the country recognized by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. The university comprises 5 Institutes, 16 Faculties (streams) 140 Departments, 4 inter-disciplinary centers, a constituent college for women, and 3 constituent schools. The Banaras Hindu University conducts BHU Research Entrance Test which provides admissions to eligible candidates to P.hD programmes. Candidates willing to take admissions in a research programme will have to apply for BHU RET. All those candidates who have passed the examination in 10+2+3+2 pattern are eligible to apply for BHU RET.

BHU RET 2023: Who can apply
Educational Qualification
There shall be a separate educational qualification for each course.
Nationality/Citizenship
The candidates belonging to the following categories are eligible to apply for BHU RET.
1. Indian Nationals
2. Overseas Citizen of India (OCIs)
3. Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs)
4. Foreign Nationals
Age Limit
There is no Age Criteria for seeking Admission to Research Courses.

BHU RET 2023: How can apply
Step 1- Registration on the Portal- This step involves authentication of the Candidate’s email id and mobile number. As all-important communications related to Entrance Test and Admission will be sent to the registered email id and mobile number, candidates are advised to give their correct email id/ mobile number.
Step 2- Filling up Identification details- Only after successful registration on the Portal the candidates would be required to fill up an Identification Form giving particulars of the documents for authentication of their identity. For the purposes, following photo identification documents are allowed: (i) Aadhaar Card; (ii) Passport;(iii) Voter ID issued by the Election Commission of India; (iv) Bank Passbook affixed with the photograph (v)Driving License; (vi) Pan Card; (vii) any other valid Government ID Number and (viii) Admit Card issued by the concerned Boards. Candidates should carefully write the correct spelling of their names as carried in their Aadhaar /identification document (as applicable).
Step 3- Online Application Form Entry and Course Selection- After successfully entering identification details, the candidates are required to fill-up details in the online application form and select the course after ensuring their eligibility for the concerned course in which they are desirous.
Step 4- Uploading of photographs and signature- Candidates have to scan their photo and signature as per instructions given in the portal and upload it.
Step 5- Payment of Application Processing/ Entrance Test Fee- The candidates can pay the application fees in online mode only. For online payment, candidates can pay through Credit Card/ Debit Card/ Net Banking/Paytm/UPI.
Step 6. Print the Confirmation page: The last step is to take printouts of the confirmation page, after successful payment of application fees.

BHU RET 2023: Admission to the Examination Centres
Candidates must bring the following documents to the Test Centre.
1. A printed copy of Admit Card.
2. One passport-size photograph (same as uploaded on the Online Application Form) for pasting on the specific space in the Attendance Sheet at the Centre during the Examination.
3. The candidates shall report at the Examination Centre two hours before the commencement of the examination so as to complete the frisking and registration formalities well before time. The registration desk will be closed 30 minutes prior to the examination.
4. The candidates are advised to read the instructions on the Admit Card carefully and follow them during the conduct of the examination.
5. Candidates should take their seats immediately after the opening of the Examination Hall. If the candidates do not report in time due to any reason i.e. traffic jam, train/bus delay etc, they are likely to miss some of the general instructions to be announced in the Examination Rooms/Halls.
6. A seat indicating Roll Number will be allotted to each candidate. Candidates should find and sit on their allocated seats only. In case of a candidate changes room/hall or the seat on his/her own other than the one allotted, the candidature shall be canceled and no plea would be accepted for it.

BHU RET 2023: Admit Card
Eligible candidates can download the admit card with their credentials such as application number and date of birth. No candidate will receive a Admit card by priority mail, email, fax, etc. It includes details such as the candidate's name, test date, test time, and test center. Candidates can follow the below-mentioned steps to download admit card for the exam:
STEP 1- Visit the official website.
STEP 2- Click on the ‘Admit Card’ option.
STEP 3- Fill in the Application number and Date of Birth. Click on Submit button.
STEP 4- Admit Card will be displayed on the screen.
STEP 5- Click on “Download Admit Card”.Save and print copies.
BHU RET 2023: Result
Candidates will be able to download the result of BHU RET using their registration number. The candidates can get to know their subject-wise marks, total marks, state-wise ranks after checking the result. The candidates collaborating in writing BHU RET can check their results by following the steps listed below:
STEP 1- Go to the official website
STEP 2- Click on the activated result link
STEP 3- Enter application number, password and security code
STEP 4- Enter the registration number and password (date of birth)
STEP 5- Result will appear on the screen.
STEP 6- Take a printout of it and keep it safely for further use.
BHU RET 2023: Mode of Selection
BHU RET Counselling Process will start after the declaration of the BHU RET examination results. All the eligible candidates shall be informed and called for the counselling process. Candidates who have been given seats and still do not attend the counselling process shall have their seats rejected and given to other eligible candidates. All BHU RET selected candidates are obliged to attend the BHU RET counselling session. Candidates must bring an original copy of all relevant documents to the counselling centre. Candidates must attend the BHU RET counselling session on the scheduled date and time.

Candidates must remember that for all grades, the minimum qualifying marks for the BHU RET Entrance Exam have been fixed at 35%. For detailed information of BHU RET exam eligibility please click on above Eligibility button.
2 hours before the test, candidates must meet the BHU RET Examination Centre.
Candidates must, along with a hard copy of their Admit Card and Aadhaar Card, go to the BHU RET Examination Centre. You can see complete process to download BHU RET Exam Admit Card by visiting the General Information tab above.
For each correct answer in BHU RET exam, candidates will get 3 marks and they will lose 1 point for each wrong answer.
