GATE 2024 Exam will be conducted by the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (IISc Bangalore) on February 3, 4, 10, and 11, 2024. GATE 2024 application form was released on August 30, 2023 on the official website. GATE admit card has been released by IISc Bangalore on January 03, 2024.

GATE EXAM PATTERN

As per GATE Exam Pattern the exam will be conducted online for a duration of 3 hours. GATE Question Paper includes 65 questions mainly divided into the General Aptitude section and Core Discipline. The General Aptitude section in GATE exam carries a weightage of 15 marks while the remaining 85 marks are the Core Discipline and related topics.

2. Total number of subject papers: 30

3. All Test Papers of GATE examinations will be entirely of objective type. The pattern of questions will include some Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQ), while the remaining questions may include Multiple Select Questions (MSQ) and/or Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions.

4. A candidate is allowed to appear for ONE or maximum TWO subject papers only. TWO Paper combinations have to be chosen from the given list of combinations of papers. Final allotment of TWO papers will still be subject to availability of infrastructure and dates.

GATE MODE OF EXAMINATION

GATE Examination will be held as a Computer Based Test (CBT). It will contain Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), Multiple Select Questions (MSQ), and/or Numerical Answer Type (NAT) Questions. The total duration of Examination is 180 minutes.

GATE MEDIUM OF EXAMINATION

GATE Examination will be held in English Language.

GATE MARKING SCHEME HIGHLIGHTS

1. Each subject/paper is of total 100 marks. General Aptitude (GA) section of 15 marks is common for all papers. Hence, the remaining 85 marks are for the respective subject/paper code.

2. The General Aptitude section 5 questions carrying 1-mark each (sub-total 5 marks) and 5 questions carrying 2-marks each (sub-total 10 marks).

3. For a wrong answer chosen in a MCQ, there will be negative marking. For 1-mark MCQ, 1/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer. Likewise, for 2-mark MCQ, 2/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer.

4. The Multiple Select Questions (MSQ) will carry 1 or 2 marks each in all the papers and sections.

5. There is no negative marking for a wrong answer in MSQ questions. However, there is no partial credit for choosing partially correct combinations of choices or any single wrong choice.

6. The Numerical Answer Type (NAT) Questions will carry 1 or 2 marks each in most of the papers and sections.

7. There is no negative marking for a wrong answer in NAT questions. Also, there is no partial credit in NAT questions.

Normalization of Score:-

After the evaluation of the answers, the actual (raw) marks obtained by a candidate will be considered for computing the GATE Score. For multi-session papers (subjects), raw marks obtained by the candidates in different sessions will be converted to Normalized marks for that particular subject. Thus, raw marks (for single session papers) or normalized marks (for multi-session papers) will be used for computing the GATE Score, based on the qualifying marks.

In GATE examination, some papers may be conducted in multi-sessions. Hence, for these papers, a suitable normalization is applied to take into account any variation in the difficulty levels of the question papers across different sessions.
The committee arrived at the following formula for calculating the normalized marks for the multi-session papers.

Calculation of GATE Score for All Papers

For all papers for which there is only one session, actual marks obtained by the candidates will be used for calculating the GATE Score. For papers in multi-session, normalized marks will be calculated corresponding to the raw marks obtained by a candidate and the GATE Score will be calculated based on the normalized marks.

GATE EXAM ELIGIBILITY

Candidates willing to apply for the GATE Examination are required to fulfill certain conditions to be eligible for it. The candidate who does not satisfy the Eligibility criteria like Age, Minimum educational qualification, the etc candidature shall be rejected by the authorities. The criteria for eligibility for GATE are decided by the conduction body itself. The candidate’s eligibility for the GATE Examination is based on the fulfillment of the following conditions:-

1. In power electronics, most of the questions were from the converter, one theory question was from switching frequency of switches.

2. In network theory all questions were easy.

3. In power system questions was easy to moderate (Economical Load dispatch, load governor, swing equation, HVDC Link, etc.

4. In the electrical machine, two questions was theory tye (Relay used in Alternator filed, Single phase motor power factor), one very easy question from induction motor slip-speed, one moderate question from Auto-transformer starter.

GATE EXAM SELECTION PROCEDURE

Candidates will have to apply to the individual institutes/universities as per the admission notification. However, IIT will not conduct common counselling while admissions to the NITs are done through the CCMT (Centralised Counselling for M.Tech/M.Plan) process. Candidates who are qualified in the GATE exam have to apply online for CCMT.In the test/interview-based selection procedure, as per the MHRD guidelines, a minimum of 70% weightage will be given to the performance in GATE and the remaining will be given to the candidate’s performance in test/interview and/or academic record. However, the admitting institutes could prescribe minimum passing marks in the test/interview.

GATE or Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is a nationwide entrance test administered by IISc Banglore and seven IITs (located in Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, and Roorkee) on behalf of NCB GATE for admission of M.Tech in IIT, NIT, IIIT. , etc. and also for PSU recruitment (at BHEL, GAIL, HAL, IOCL, NTPC, ONGC, PGCI, etc.). GATE EXAM APPLICATION PROCESS

The application process is online, Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria can fill out the application form. The application process involves several steps, such as registering, completing the application form, uploading the required documents, paying the fee, and final submission. Candidates only need to fill out the application form with correct details, otherwise, you are responsible for rejection.

GATE APPLICATION FORM FILLING DOCUMENTS REQUIRED

1. Personal information (name, date of birth, personal mobile number, parents' name, parents' mobile number, etc.).

2. Address for Communication (including PIN code).

3. Qualifying degree certificate, College name, and address with PIN code.

4. Category certificate (if applicable)

5. Economically Weaker Section (EWS) certificate (if applicable)

6. Person with Disability (PwD) certificate (if applicable)

7. A valid email ID and mobile number, permanent and correspondence address with pin code

8. High-quality image of candidate's photograph conforming to the requirements specified.

STEPS TO FILL GATE ONLINE APPLICATION FORM

1. Registration: Aspirants needed to register for the exam by providing a valid email address, mobile number, and a GOAPS password. All communications regarding GATE will be sent to the email address provided at the time of registration.

GOAPS Password: Aspirants had to choose a password during their registrations through GOAPS. This password must be remembered by the candidate along with the GOAPS Enrolment ID to log in to GOAPS.

GOAPS Enrollment ID: Once aspirants register for GATE, an email containing the GOAPS Enrolment ID will be sent to the candidates on the email id provided.

2. Filling up the application form: Candidates need to fill their personal, academic, and contact details in the GATE application form and note down system-generated application numbers. They also have to create a password that will be used for future logins.

3. Upload Scanned Photo & Signature: Upload Scanned Photo & Signature. Images that are not as per prescribed specification shall not be considered and may lead to rejection of the application.

4. Choose your Test City Pay the Examination Fee: While applying, candidates have to select any four cities of their choice. The efforts will be made to allow the city of examination to the candidates in order of choice opted by them in their online Application Form. However, due to administrative/logistic reasons, a different city can be allotted. The candidates can pay the application fees in online mode only. For online payment, candidates can pay through Credit Card/ Debit Card/ Net Banking/Paytm/UPI.

GATE 2024: Scheme of Exam

As per GATE Exam Pattern, the exam will be conducted online for a duration of 3 hours. GATE Question Paper includes 65 questions mainly divided into the General Aptitude section and Core Discipline. The General Aptitude section in GATE exam carries a weightage of 15 marks while the remaining 85 marks are the Core Discipline and related topics.

GATE 2024: Syllabus

The GATE paper includes three sections – General Aptitude, Engineering Mathematics and technical subject as per the paper chosen by a candidate. Some of Major Topics in General Aptitude and Engineering Mathematics is given below:

General Aptitude: Basic English grammar, Data interpretation: data graphs (bar graphs, pie charts, and other graphs representing data), Logic: deduction and induction Analogy Numerical relations and reasoning, Transformation of shapes etc.

Engineering Mathematics: Calculus, Linear Algebra, Real Analysis, Complex Analysis, Ordinary Differential equations, Algebra, Functional Analysis, Numerical Analysis, Partial Differential Equations, Topology & Linear Programming etc.

GATE 2024: Admission to the Examination Centres

1. The Examination Centre will be opened two hours before the commencement of the test. Therefore, candidates must ensure that they leave home well in advance considering all facts like traffic, location of the Centre, weather conditions, etc. Candidates are expected to take their seats immediately after the opening of the Examination Hall.

2. The candidate must show, on-demand, the Admit Card for admission in the Examination Hall. A candidate who does not possess a valid Admit Card shall not be allowed to enter the Examination Hall by the Centre Superintendent.

3. A seat with a roll number will be allotted to each candidate. Candidates must find out and occupy their allotted seats. If a candidate is found appearing in the Examination from a seat or room other than the allotted one, the candidature shall be cancelled.

4. During the examination time, the Invigilator will check Admit Card of the candidates to ascertain the identity of each candidate. The Invigilators will also put their own signature in the place provided in the Answer Sheet and on the Attendance Sheet.

5. A candidate who comes late shall not be permitted to enter the Examination Centre under any circumstances.

6. Candidates must bring only the following documents on the day of examination at the test centre. Candidates who will not bring these will not be allowed to sit in the examination.

A) A printed copy of Barcoded/ QR Admit Card downloaded from website with passport size photograph (same as uploaded on the Application form) pasted on it.

GATE 2024: Admit Card

Candidates can follow the below-mentioned steps to download admit card for the GATE exam:

Step 1- Visit the official website and click on the "GATE Admit Card" link.

Step 2- A new page of the GOAPS website will appear where candidates have to enter their Enrollment ID and Password to log in

Step 3- After logging in, GATE admit card will be displayed on the screen

Step 4- Check all the details mentioned on the admit card carefully

Step 5- View, download and print the GATE admit card.

GATE 2024: Result

Candidates can follow the below steps to check the GATE exam result:

Step 1- Visit the GOAPS official website

Step 2- The page to enter the login credentials will open in a new tab.

Step 3- Enter the login credentials such as application number, password, and captcha code in the given space.

Step 4- GATE result will appear on the screen in PDF format.

What is GATE Exam?	GATE is an online national level examination conducted for Master of Engineering (ME), Masters in Technology (MTech), and direct Ph.D. admissions to Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) and other institutes/universities
For how many GATE papers can I apply?	A candidate is allowed to appear either in ONE or UP TO TWO papers of the GATE examination. However, a candidate is only allowed to select the second paper from the pre-defined Two Paper Combination list.
If a paper is being held in more than one session, can I appear in any of the sessions of that particular paper?	NO. Each candidate will be assigned to ONLY ONE of the multiple sessions of a particular paper.
Are there a separate rank/paper for Architecture and Planning (AR) candidates in GATE ?	NO separate scores and ranks will be provided for candidates attempting either Part B1 (Architecture) or Part B2 (Planning).
Can a student with backlogs in the qualifying exams appear in GATE ?	Candidates with backlogs can apply for GATE using the marks sheet for the final semesters (anyone) of your B.Tech/ graduation. However, you will have to clear your backlog by the time admissions in M.Tech commence.

Is there any age limit to appear for GATE ?	NO. There is NO age limit to appear for GATE
How do I make the fee payment for the GATE examination?	The payment option will appear after filling out the online application form on the GATE website. The candidate can opt for any of the payment options listed over there. The additional charges such as service charges, processing fees, or bank charges, have to be borne by the candidate.
I am currently studying in 3rd year B.A./B.Com./B.Sc. Am I eligible to appear for GATE-?	YES, any undergraduate student currently in 3rd year or higher years of any government-approved program in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Arts/Commerce/Science is eligible to appear for GATE .

Can I bring a soft copy of the Admit Card (in mobile phone/tablet/laptop) to gain entry to the examination centre?	NO. A hard copy (preferably printed in color) of the Admit Card is required to gain entry to the examination centre.

Will I be allowed to carry a physical calculator to the GATE examination hall?	No. You won't be allowed to carry it. You will be provided with a virtual scientific calculator which has to be used to answer the questions.
When will the online or virtual calculator be available to practice? How to use the GATE virtual calculator?	The virtual calculator will be available for candidates to practice. It will be made available with the GATE mock test paper. With practice, you will learn how to use the virtual calculator for GATE.
What happens if a physical calculator (even on an electronic watch) or a mobile phone (even in switched-off mode) is found in my possession in the examination hall?	You will be sent outside the examination hall as disqualified because such cases will naturally constitute the violation of the GATE code of conduct that leads to the disqualification of the candidature.
